1. We weren't able to completely solve the problem of making friends from other schools via our blogs. We have tried to reply to comments from other students but it is still difficult because it is hard to keep track of time between posts.

2. We do not know when the other students will reply to our comments as well or post on their own blogs, making it inconvenient to try to carry an actual conversation.
3. It would be better if there was some way for us to know when the students from the other schools wrote new posts, so that we would be able to reply in a timely fashion. Also, it might be conducive to our learning Japanese and fun if we could chat via instant messages.

そして、ヴァジニア大学の学生は don't always respond (たとえば to our introductions of their blogs). If they do respond, it takes a very long time (as it usually does with us if they write to us). We could try still to post more regularly on their blogs since we don't usually comment on their blogs that often. But, sometimes there are problems with understanding their blogs.

1. & 2. Although I put some effort into making my blog more interesting by putting some pictures up, it didn't really work. I guess it's not only about making your blog interesting, but also about actively visiting other people's blog and making comments on their site and etc.
3. As I said above, I should probably visit other people's blog more often and see if they have replied to mine yet and continue an active conversation with them. In order to do so, I should pick a few blog that I really like and pay attention to when and what the person writes.

Unless the blog project is incorporated into our daily 2 hours of semi-mandated study for this class, I believe it will be very difficult for anyone to be successful in making blog friends on any significant level. I think people had success for short periods of time when replies were regularly made from both sides, but this was rare. Over the summer, I hope to spend time reading and commenting on blogs of those who have kindly commented on mine as well as ones that are interesting, which include many.

People at other schools have different assignments/schedules than we do, and they know different words and kanji.

I think we should just be assigned to post in our own blogs and comment on the blogs of other people in our class. The best way to get people to comment on our blogs is to tell them they're getting a grade for it!

。。 Also, this class is very busy. I personally spend about two or 3 hours a night on BASIC homework and quiz studying, not to mention reviewing, etc. The "projects" portion of the class (blogging, podcast, essays contest) seems as though it was put on top of a pre-existing curriculum, rather than integrated into it. There doesn't seem to be room in our schedule for more than just basic work/studying. thankfully our professors have been very flexible with deadlines, but it's been very very hard to keep up.

3。Maybe have a set time for blogging, a set, standardized schedule with the other universities so we could follow it in posting and commenting, instead of sporadic comments and replies.

I think some students are just neglectful of the blog. Also it takes other students a long time to respond to postings. Perhaps if the blog accounted for more of the grade people would take it more seriously. There is no viable way to force someone to respond to your comments.

Hint, hint.) えいごでかいてもいいでうすか?- I guess it's all about keeping up with the postings ......

しかし、it would be helpful if there was a way to be notified whenever someone posts on our blog.

It would also be helpful if

(Maybe if we only spoke with classmates)、communication would be better and more frequent.

Alot of what other people have been saying is true. It's hard to keep up with when other students post on your blog and therefore establish a correspondence. Also, I think that unless this project is regulated more strictly, it will be hard to really make progress. If it was like a language lab, where you had to post and comment for like 45 minutes once a week--and were graded on it that week, I think students would spend more time and put more effort into it. As it is, there is already so much work for this class, everyone kinda cuts out the aspects that aren't mandatory. If the blog was made mandatory, I think it would get more attention.

This is probably a problem only the students can fix. Even though it's fun to read the blogs of students from other universities, it might be better to concentrate on posting on our classmate's blogs.

I don't think we really managed to make new friends through this endeavor. Part of the problem is the language barrier. Even though we're learning a great deal of Japanese very quickly, we're still not at the level where we can talk about complicated, interesting things. I think that's the biggest problem.

I don't think we succeeded in trying to make friends through the blog. I think the biggest reasons for failure would probably be lack of time as well as the fact that online communities are a bit forced, especially this one.

To be honest, I have to say that I never felt fully committed to the blog. That could just be me though. I think it is really hard for a something like this to succeed because it requires much effort and interest on the individual's part. This is quite difficult in a class setting because it ultimately relies upon the individuals, and many individuals are either not fully interested or don't have enough time. Also, since it is a class and required, it makes it more difficult for individuals to be interested in the assignment.

One way I think this could be improved is by fully integrating the blog into the course load (accounting for this in workload and adjusting other assignments accordingly). This would mean probably once a week going to IAB lab and having class there, with some time dedicated specifically to the blogs. Also, I think specific topics given out each week would be helpful, because for me a large issue is just coming up with an idea to post on. In all, I think in order for the blog to be successful it must be much more integrated into the course, otherwise it somewhat becomes a waste.
